      Assistant Professor-Environmental Health<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Dr Egide Kalisa<\/mark> <\/strong>is an early career researcher. His research is connected to his own story; the effect of air pollution and climate change in his life has motivated him to improve conditions not only in his home country of Rwanda but also in Africa as a whole, including sub-Saharan Africa, where air pollution emissions are high, and data are lacking. His specific areas of focus are air pollution impacts of urban form and exploring the relationships between the chemical and biological composition of the air people breathe. Dr Kalisa research applies air pollution science, analyzes large datasets to understand the spatial and temporal variation of air pollution and develops effective strategies to improve local and regional air quality policy measures. His long-term research objective is to design rigorous research on air pollution health effects and perform more comprehensive studies on the population’s health outcomes associated with air pollution exposure and disseminate interventions for reducing the exposure to air pollution and associated adverse health outcomes in low-income communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Dr. Kalisa conducted research in Environment and Health in different countries, including Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda and the United Kingdom. He was selected for the 2024 Voice for Science Communication recipient by American Geophysical Union (AGU), 2021 Global Emerging Leader Award, Forgaty-NIH-USA, the 2023 Award of the Most Outstanding Research Contribution to addressing the national societal challenge provided by the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) and the best Publisher Award of the University of Rwanda. Dr Kalisa have supervised 13 graduate trainees, including three Ph.D. students, two MSc students, and eight undergraduate students. His multidisciplinary research program has received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (Principal Investigator), The World Academy of Sciences (Principal Investigator), the National Council for Science and Technology, Rwanda (Principal Investigator), UK-Royal Society (Principal Investigator), Centre of Urban Environment, University of Toronto (Principal Investigator) and Global Challenges Research Fund (Co-Applicant). His experience of conducting research in five geographic regions (i.e. North America, Europe, Oceania, Asia, and Africa) and speaking both English and French also uniquely positions him to mentor students with research interests in the five regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
