Dr. Egide Kalisa! We’re delighted to announce that our core member has been selected for the 2024
Voices for Science trains scientists to communicate the value and impact of Earth and space sciences to key decision-makers, journalists, and public audiences. The program recruits scientists to participate in one of two tracks: policy or communications. The Voices for Science program provides scientists interested in science communications and outreach with specialized training to hone their skills. Throughout the twelve-month program, participants work directly with AGU staff to conduct regular outreach activities with various audiences in their local communities. On April 14 in Washington, Dr Egide Kalisa joined another US and Canada team selected for AGU’s Voices for Science program 2024-2025 cohort. The Voices for Science program empowers scientists to share the value and impact of Earth and space science with critical decision-makers, journalists, and public audiences to increase science’s widespread understanding and support. Dr Kalisa was selected from a highly competitive applicant pool because of your demonstrated leadership and potential to influence your local community positively. His enthusiasm for honing his communication and advocacy skills and engaging in the scientific communication and policymaking process as part of the 2024- 2025 Voices for Science program shows his dedication to promoting science for the benefit of the scientific community and humanity. Scientific enterprises depend heavily on federal support, and the critical challenges of our time can only be solved if we let strong science inform our decisions. Now more than ever, it is essential for scientists to interact with policymakers, the public and the media regularly. These key stakeholders need to hear about critical issues directly from scientists and their constituents, and your efforts to reach out and galvanize your community can and will make a difference.
